Q: What are the Continuing Professional
Development (CPD) requirements of the Psychology Board of Australia?
A: The Psychology Board of Australia
(PBA) has not yet announced its final decision on CPD requirements.
It has been proposed (March, 2010) that all psychologists
will be required to participate in 30 hours of CPD per year of which
a minimum of 10 hours must be peer consultation.
Further, it has been proposed that Board-approved supervisors
will be required to participate in regular professional development
relevant to the supervision process.
However, these proposals might not be adopted.
For updates, check the PBA webpage

Q:
What are the Continuing Professional Development
requirements of the Australian Psychological Society?
A:
The Australian
Psychological Society (APS)
(www.psychology.org.au) requires 90 generalist PD points per 2 year
cycle (plus specialist points for College members).
Points can be earned at 1 per hour for activities in which
you “consume information” or 2 per hour for active learning that
includes an interactive workshop with preparation and
post-assessment. Our
workshops are designed to earn generalist, “active” points –
pre-reading is recommended (download from
Articles) and there is a
reflective exercise to complete with a colleague after the workshop.
If you do not complete the pre-reading or post-exercise then
you are eligible to claim only 1 PD point per hour.
Q:
Are these workshops only for Psychologists?
A:
No, any professional is welcome to attend most of the workshops.
If specialist workshops are developed then there will be a
statement in the workshop description that they are intended only
for a particular discipline or sub-specialty.
Q:
How many PD points will I earn for these workshops?
A:
There are 6 hours of active participation time in each workshop day
(9.00-4.30 = 7.5 hours, minus lunch and 2 short tea breaks).
Q:
How do I claim my PD points?
A:
A certificate of
attendance will be provided.
Maintain a CPD log as required by PBA, APS or your professional
group and report your PD activities at the times required.
Claim 1 CPD point per hour for PBA or other professional
groups. Claim 1 or 2 PD
points per hour for APS (depending on completion of pre-reading and
post-exercise). Keep details
of your participation in case of audit.
Q: What do I need to bring to the workshop?
A: We’ll provide a workshop handbook and morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
Please bring:
-
a writing pad and pen,
-
a copy of the pre-reading (download from Articles – you’ll receive instructions when your registration is confirmed) and
- layer clothing (it’s difficult to keep a room at the right temperature for all participants, layers of clothing allow you to adjust your own temperature)
Q:
Can I book one of the workshops for the
staff at my workplace?
